If any of you out there are looking for a fine contemporary vampire story or two, then the two books (A Vampire Testament series) by Terence Taylor are for you. There are no pansy-ass teenage vamps still struggling to get through high-school and the Prom in this dark story about Vampires infesting New York.
Now…this story isn’t a twenty-first century story that paints vampires as misunderstood. These books are just what the doctor ordered to take away the painful memory of our new and often pathetic vampires of today. These vampires do everything a good old fashioned vampire is supposed to do:
- They suck the life out of people.
- They control people with their minds.
- They form familial groups based on the master’s bloodline.
- They live in opulant mansions (well new york aparments anyway) away from the sun.
And on top of that, they have a whole host of new things going on. But, what’s important is that the stories are awesome—good old fashioned good vs. evil. But it’s the humans here that are subject to the difficulties and angst, the humans here who are battling themselves and their own vices, and must overcome them to defeat these terrible bloodsuckers.
Bottom line—the humans are human and the vamps are vamps. I loved these books. If you like gothic literature and you like real, blood sucking, cold blooded, murdering vampires and if you like underdog humans facing off with a friggin’ awe-inspiring evil undead then this series is for you.
Until next time, I’ll keep the lantern lit.
